Ignoring ergo can undo your yoga and Pilates
Do you do yoga? or maybe you prefer Pilates?
Either way, you're special. You're special because you value posture.
Many people value fitness, but not everyone takes specific action to find their center and build a balanced body around it.
If you're into yoga or Pilates AND you work on a computer AND haven't thought about ergonomics, you're fighting against your own self. All of the hard work you do for an hour on the mat or the reformer, can be unraveled when you work in awkward postures on your laptop for multiple hours.
If your yoga class is 1 step forward, your laptop work day could be 5 steps back.
Stop the posture tug-o-war. Invest in your physical wellness and get your computer workstation set up properly.
To achieve neutral spine posture while working on your computer:
- Your keyboard and mouse must be separate from your screen - check out the guys in the photo above, see how their backs are hunched over? It's because their screens are too low (if you wear bi-focal or progressive lenses, you *might* get a pass on this, but not necessarily)
- Your hands should work at belly-button height
- Your keyboard and mouse should be close to you so that your elbows rest near your torso
- Your arms need support
- Your legs and feet need support
- Your low back needs support if you sit in a chair
